Let us be honest, this is the fight that almost everyone wants to see go down. The two baddest men in the business. It’s the classic good guy Vs. bad guy showdown, a must see. One guy used to be the pound for pound king, and still thinks that he is. The other guy IS the pound for pound king, and wants to keep that title.
This is one of those fights that is just supposed to happen. It has all of the ingredients and chemistry to ignite the boxing world, and to lift the sport back up to where it used to be. Unfortunately there are too many complications, and the fight as of right now is dead in the water.
There are many aspects that are involved here. There are the demands put forth by Floyd Mayweather Jr, such as random blood testing. There are venue issues, tax issues, legal issues, glove size issues, just issues, issues, and more issues.
If this fight ever does push through, more than likely there would be a rematch. This is why it would be such a beautiful thing if we can get the first fight made. The hype leading up to the fight would be just as good as the fight itself. The aftermath of the fight would be good as well, and a rematch would be in order.
No matter who wins the first fight, the other side will be foaming at the mouth for redemption. If Floyd wins the fight there will be millions of very disappointed Filipino fans, all of which would want revenge. If Manny wins the fight, more than likely Floyd would want his chance to redeem himself.
Side factors – The fans on both sides are a separate issue. Filipino fans are furious at the Mayweathers for some of the comments made by both Floyd and Floyd Sr. Mayweather has called Manny a “midget” and even a few worse things. In response, the fans blasted back in the forums, and on Examiner comment pages. The blood has been boiling, creating even more of a reason for these two fighters to just get in there and fight.
The Mississippi fans that I have spoken to about this fight for some months now are divided right down loyalty lines. Obviously the Mayweather fans all side with Floyd, and crack on Manny, and the Pacquiao fans side with Manny, and crack on Floyd. I spoke with the Mississippi Assistant Athletic Commissioner Patrick Turner awhile back about this fight. Turner made a good point about Mayweather, he said, “Floyd has gotten a lot from the sport of boxing. He needs to give something back to the sport now and fight Manny Pacquiao.”

This fight really needs to happen, but as of right now it’s a big giant IF. We all need to cross our fingers and pray to the boxing God’s to make this one happen. Let’s settle this thing once and for all inside of the ring.
