FORMER Baguio-based boxing trainer Marvin Somodio seems to have adjusted to his new life in the US as part of the Freddie Roach?s Wild Card Boxing Gym in Los Angeles.
?I think his doing good, we just had a conversation thru phone three days ago and he seems so tired, but I think he has already adjusted top the life there,? said Somodio?s former boss, Anson Tiu Co of the Shape Up Boxing Gym.
Somodio is one of the trainers at the Manny Pacquiao camp as they gear up for the much anticipated fourth showdown between Mexican arch nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez when they clash Dec. 8,(US Time) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
?Masaya ako kasi talagang maganda din naman ang pinapakita ni Marvin as one of Freddie?s assistant,? added Tiu Co.
?In fact, Marvin also made good of his name when he was in the corner of Brian Villoria. Marvin actually taped the hands of Bryan in that fight,? quipped the gym owner along Naguillian road here in the Summer Capital.
Viloria scored a 10th round knock ? out against Mexican Hernan Marquez to unify the WBA and WBO flyweight title last November 17 at the Sports Arena, Los Angeles, California, USA.
Somodio, a former member of the country’s national boxing team, has been assisting Pacquiao and trainer Freddie Roach since 2009 when the duo started training in Shape Up Boxing Gym where he was initially employed as a fitness instructor by Tiu and then progressed as a boxing trainer to Tiu’s stable of young fighters.
His contribution during the last two years impressed the Hall of Fame boxing coach and he has been a part of training camp since.
In fact, for Pacquiao?s training camp against Marquez, Somodio is one of the three Filipino trainers working alongside Roach and see to it that the Filipino ring icon gets the job done come fight night.
While Roach works on Pacquiao?s technique as Buboy Fernandez focuses on enhancing Pacquiao?s power and speed with the mitts, Somodio wears the body shield and plays the rabbit in making Pacquiao chase him around the ring.
The third Filipino is working in Pacquiao’s camp is Nonoy Neri.
