WHEN you are president, you hope not to get booed. But, Herbert Hoover appeared in the 1931 World Series and was heartily booed.
Last Saturday Manny Pacquiao went to Cebu City Sports Center and was also lustily booed. One local newsman said “they reacted that way because Manny came with Lito Atienza,” seen by many as crassly exploiting Manny’s popularity to favor the Atienza’s in Manila. Recall that Manny registered as a Manila voter, perceived as a prelude to an Ali Atienza-Manny Pacquiao team. Mayor Tolits should be with those who are down and out.

In Cebu, according to sportswriter Nick Giongco in Tempo the other day, ring announcer Ted Lerner, thinking the booing was just a fluke, introduced Mayor Tolits. It became even louder.
A member of Manny’s party said: “He’s never been booed. Manny said later that he didn’t hear the booing.”
So he has really become deaf even. Nabingi pa sa kabubulong ni Tolits. Doing damage control, Tolits, abetted by Romy Macalintal, created the spin that they had gone to Cebu precisely to tell Manny to change his mind about running. Successfully they said. Lokohin ninyo ang lelong ninyong panot. Another account said Manny was determined to run anyway. Our little intelligence keeps getting insulted.
Manila is decaying. That is where Tolits should be. Who spent for his group’s trip? The taxpayer? The purpose was private. If he spent a single cent of public funds, criminal and ethical norms must be applied. He should inspect his stinking city hall, maybe the worst in any capital in the world. Boo!
We are happy, however, for Alex Compton, who is truly one of us, unlike the Fil-Ams and Fil-Tongan who have not really tried to adapt to our culture. They are here for the money. The composition of the group to be sent to the South East Asian Basketball Association tournament in May shows it is not our national team. Alex should be on it instead. Cheers!
The SEABA picks reflect the continuing insult to our native capabilities. In nursing, the Professional Regulation Commission, the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court, decided that the June 2007 nursing passers are good enough for us. But some souls continue to advertise that they would not be good enough, as shaped by those who keep saying we are inferior.
Lagi na lang inaaba ang ating kakayahan. Boo!
